For curly hair, oils are a major key to maintaining beautiful curls. Oils have the ability to resolve almost all your hair issues from frizz, lack of definition, lack of shine, lack of moisture retention, brittle hair, to split ends.
There are two main types of jobs that oils do: moisturizing and sealing. Moisturizing oils tend to be heavier oils so they can be used alone on the hair without a sealing oil. The sealing oils seal moisture into the hair. These sealing oils should be applied to the hair after the leave-in moisturizers. All these oils should be used at different times, can can be incorporated into different stages of your hair care routine.
Olive Oil (Moisturizing Oil)
Although most people wouldn’t think of using olive oil anywhere else than the kitchen, but with it being full of antioxidants and good fats, it’s the perfect oil to incorporate into your hair care. Olive oil helps prevent hair thinning, breakage and split ends.
Argan Oil (Dry or Frizzy Hair)
This oil is created from the nuts of the argan trees that commonly grow in Morocco. Argan oil is rich in omega 3, vitamin E, fatty acids, and antioxidants. Argan oil is amazing for turning damaged, thick, brittle, dry, coarse and frizzy hair into more manageable, soft and shinny hair. Argan oil can also promote healing of your hair follicles so that hair grows in fuller and healthier.
Avocado Oil (Moisturizing Oil)
Avocado oil contains healthy fats, proteins, amino acids, and vitamins A, D, E and B6. Avocado oil has a thick consistency, so is a very great oil to use on coarse, curly, and thick hair. The proteins in this oil help to fill in and repair the damaged areas of the hair, all while preventing further damage and frizz. Avocado oil is works wonders on heat-damaged hair. Along with it’s healing properties, avocado oil lubricates and moisturizes hair.
Almond oil (Light consistency)
Almond oil is ones of the lighter oils, but still great for curls. Containing fatty acids, magnesium, protein, antioxidants and vitmain E, almond oil will boost growth and the health of your hair. Almond oil can also be used to reduce inflammation of the scalp, dandraff, and hair breakage. Additionally, due to its light consistency, it is the prefect oil to use for bouncier and more voluminous styles.
Jojoba Oil (Sealing Oil)
Jojoba oil is rich in vitamins A, D and E. This oil can be great for all hair types. Jojoba oil helps repair the damage that has been done to the hair, all while promoting growth and shine. As a sealing oil, it is best applied after the conditioner to lock in the moisture for longer lasting styles and less frizz.
Rosemary oil, which is actually an essential oil, is amazing for promoting hair thickness, healthy growth and repair. Rosemary oil is packed with antioxidants which can help reduce hair thinning by promoting blood circulation in the scalp, stimulating the follicles and promoting growth. Since it is an essential oil, it should be used with a carrier oil such as olive oil.
Baobab oil contains omega 3, 6, and 9, as well as vitamin A, C, D, and E which makes it a great moisturizing oil. This oil is also great at fighting dandruff, split ends, and breakage.
Macadamia oil (Dry or Damaged hair)
As one of the richest and strongest nut oils, macadamia oil promotes health in very dry and damaged hair. This oil can be used as a treatment, mask, and to add moisture.
