Products for Low Porosity Curly Hair

Low porosity hair is tricky to maintain. Sometimes products don’t seem to work for our hair even if they are raved about. This is not because the products are bad, but it may be that these products are just not right for your hair type. Porosity has a big role in the way products absorb, perform and make the hair feel. It can be difficult to maintain curly, coily or kinky hair without knowing your porosity.

There are types of products that work better than others depending on your porosity level. Low porosity hair can get weighed down easily by products that don’t penetrate the hair shaft.

Beautiful Textures Moisture Butter Whipped Curl Crème
This product can be used for curly hair of any type but it is especially for low porosity hair. The product claims to soften, define and moisturize curly hair keeping it frizz free. With ingredients of olive oil, soybean oil, argan oil, coconut oil, shea butter and mango butter this product adds the right amount of moisture to curls.
The Curl Keeper hair lotion contains natural organic conditioning ingredients specifically formulated to strengthen, soften, condition and moisturize hair. This product leaves hair feeling silky and manageable without the wet or greasy after-feel.
Texture My Way Texture Control Conditioner
Texture My Way Texture Control is an moisturizing conditioner containing Shea butter and olive oil. This protein rich product leaves hair soft, moisturized and easy to comb with being greasy on the hair.  Free of sulphates, parabens, petrolatum and mineral oil free, it is a great alternative if you are more conscious about ingredients.
Texture My Way Texture Control Conditioner
The Curl La La provides lasting resilience, gloss and definition to your curls leaving it frizz free and soft. This product will moisturize the hair without leaving a white residue.
Aunt Jackie’s Quench! Moisture Intensive Leave-In Conditioner
This product provides the hair with long-lasting moisture, slip and softness with its natural ingredients, including Marshmallow Root, Shea Butter and Olive Oil. This leave-in treatment reduces dryness and dullness, without leaving curls feeling heavy.
Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Frizz Remedy Treatment
This has to be one of my all time favorite deep conditioning treatments. This product includes ingredients such as aloe vera extract and jojoba seed oil which replenishes the moisture in the hair.

When it comes to hair mousse, sticking to ones with a lighter hold, designed for curly hair will give you the best results. Opting for mousse instead of gels keeps your curls bouncy instead of weighed down. A foam mousse gives the same hold as a gel without the risk of the products not mixing well together.

Leave-in conditioners and creams that are heavy and very thick, won’t do you any favors. If you are layering products, these heavy creams will weigh down the hair instead of penetrating the hair strands and adding moisture. This leaves the hair feeling greasy and the product may just rub off on your face instead of doing it’s job.

Using heat while doing a deep conditioning treatment will do wonders for your hair. Use the steam from the shower to lift the cuticles, apply the deep conditioner and apply a cap to maximize the treatment.
