The Brazilian Keratin treatment is a liquid keratin formula that bonds to the hair creating a protective layer around each strand, helping to reduce frizz, seal the cuticle, and adds protection against external damage/breakage. The treatment lasts anywhere between 3-6 months depending on the aftercare.
Use sulfate/sodium free shampoo
Using sulfates and salt-based shampoos will dissolve the keratin coating and wash out the treatment.
Don’t use a clarifying shampoo
A clarifying shampoo’s deep cleansing properties will strip the layers of keratin of the hair strands just like it removes residue.
Don’t wash your hair too frequently
Since the keratin treatments are semi-permanent, washing too frequently can wash out the treatment faster. In between washes, you can use a dry shampoo to keep hair from feeling fresh.
Don’t sleep on cotton pillowcases
Cotton pillowcases absorb moisture from the hair, leaving it frizzy, dryness, tangles and knots. So switching to satin or silk pillowcases can help keep the hair healthy.
Don’t use heavy oils
The use of heavy oils can be great for the moisture and health of the hair. Unfortunately, they can be a bit tricky to wash out of the hair. The constant use of heavy oils and constant washing can lead to prematurely washing out the treatment.
